What is Minimalism to you?

Minimalism is a choice or even an attitude, which can be incorporated into design, clothing and lives. By removing superfluous elements, minimalism brings an ideology back to its pure and peaceful origin.

When did you start your monochrome game and what inspired you to do so?

It was about 3 years ago when I first met some people from Taiwan (now close friends) who dressed in Black & White. Ever since then, I have been dressing in Black & White.

Is there any particular designer or fashion pioneer you are influenced by?

I am influenced by the Olsen twins who started the line ‘The Row’.

Do you have any personal favourite former fashion trend that you would like to see make a comeback?

           Dark Side fashion.

What was your motivation behind launching a lifestyle multi-brand selection store?

Initially my aim was to introduce and promote Taiwanese brands as a lifestyle to the people of Hong Kong. My vision for IMPLY is to become a platform for worldwide minimal items gather.

Most of your brands are from Taiwan; what do you like about Taiwanese fashion and how is it different from what we have in Hong Kong?

Taiwanese fashion has the essence of timelessness and simplicity which specifically prioritises details and quality. Fashion on the streets of Hong Kong are dominated mostly by streetwear that showcases a wide range of colour, prints and pattern, as opposed to the simplistic monochrome silhouettes offered by select Taiwanese brands.

What were the challenges (if any) while launching and managing IMPLY?

Location was the first problem, it was not simply about the store location itself but also the whole package including the decoration of the store, online advertisement through various channels and the development of a brand image.
In terms of management, as the owner of IMPLY it is a must for me to play all the roles necessary (for example, accounting, marketing, inventory and many more) in making this store a success. It was extremely difficult to take care of every problem all at the same time.

Ultimate goal for IMPLY?

To be the point of convergence for all things minimal in Hong Kong.

Is there anything besides IMPLY, that you would like to accomplish?

To get in touch with more disciplines of art other than fashion.

According to you, what has been the most exciting moment in the fashion industry in recent times?

It was when the Olsen Twins were awarded Top Womenswear Designers at the CFDAs in 2015.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

I like to play basketball, go to the gym, visit galleries and coffee shops.

Social aspiration in life?

To promote minimalism.

What is your favourite genre of music? What is your favourite track at the moment?

EDM. ‘Feeling is gone’ for now.
